Our Story

AVAS started with something familiar.

We grew up in Spain and now have the privilege of calling Australia home. Moving here made us appreciate some of the things we grew up with in a new way — the traditions, the design and the everyday pieces that quietly become part of life.

For us, one of those was the avarca.

A style we grew up with in Spain and came to appreciate in a new way after moving to Australia. Simple, comfortable and easy to wear, they felt perfectly suited to the lifestyle we had built here.

And because we had grown up with them, we also knew what made a good pair.

For us, the best have always been Pons.

They've been making avarcas by hand in Ciutadella, Menorca, since 1945, using soft leather and the same craftsmanship they've been known for generations.

And when it came to naming the business, we kept coming back to the avarca.

Somewhere along the way, we found ourselves wondering what they might have been called if they had been born in Australia instead of Menorca.

For us, the answer was AVAS.

AVAS is our way of bringing Spanish culture and design into everyday life in Australia.
